Matheran Railway Station to Soon Get Sleeping Pods

 The development of sleeping pods has been chosen for the Matheran railway station, which is governed by the Mumbai Division of Central Railway. On the Western Ghats in the Indian state of Maharashtra, Matheran is a well-known hill station.

Indian Railways is doing everything possible to give rail commuters access to top-notch amenities. To improve passenger experiences, the railways have developed a plan to create "Sleeping Pods," also known as "Pod Hotels." This action will assist the national transporter increase the value of its non-fare earnings in addition to giving passengers better amenities and boosting the nation's economy.

Where are the sleeping pods going to be built?

The construction of sleeping pods has been chosen for the Matheran railway station, which is governed by the Mumbai Division of Central Railway. On the Western Ghats in the Indian state of Maharashtra, Matheran is a well-known hill station. The state-of-the-art facility had just opened at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Railway Station before then.

The Financial Express cited Dr. Shivraj Manaspure, Central Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), as saying that the railroads would build the facilities close to the station. The station grounds themselves offer travelers access to cheap motels with top-notch amenities.

Methods for developing pods

On September 25, 2023, the zonal railway will launch an open online tender through an electronic auction for the construction of sleeping pods. The space where the sleeping pods will be built will be 758.77 square meters. The 'Built, Operate, and Transfer' philosophy will be applied in the development of the pods.

Services at pods

The future sleeping pods will include all the most modern amenities. The in-house pantry services will only be available to guests and other users of the Pod Hotel. There will be lifts, guiding services, and trekking activities available to the locals.

How can I place a bid at the auction?

Bidders must register in the Indian Railways E-Procurement System (IREPS) site of the railways in order to place a bid in the E-AUCTION Module on the auction date of September 25. On September 25, the day of the auction, results and a Letter of Allocation (LOA) to the winning bidder will be posted online.
